Hi! I’m Monique Harrison; I coordinate undergraduate surveys at Cornell. Cornell Chimes In is a survey experiment to see if the information we gather via text is more helpful and timely than our regular survey methods.
Cornell Chimes In is a simple, low-effort way Cornell first years can share what their year is really like as it unfolds. If a first-year student joins, they’ll get one short text message survey question each week—just a quick question about their experiences, feelings, or what’s on their mind. They will also get to see how other first-year students are responding, so they can get a sense of how their experiences compare. Responses help Cornell better understand what the first year actually feels like—not just at the end of the year, but week by week. By checking in regularly, we can see how students’ experiences change over time, including when things are going well and when challenges come up. This helps the university improve programs, resources, and support in ways that are more responsive to what students are really going through.
If you are a first-year student and want to join: You can join here. If you have questions or decide you’d rather stop getting messages, you can reach out at any time at mhm36@cornell.edu. Participation is completely up to you, and you can opt in or out whenever you want. The only thing you need to participate is a U.S. phone number that can receive text messages.
